Our Story
Below is the story of Chloe Wei's journey in the founding of AMELE...

The Association of Mandarin-English Learning Experience (AMELE) began with the vision of a young girl named Chloe Wei — a proud Taiwanese living in America who never forgot where she came from. Chloe founded this organization in 8th grade, driven by a deep desire to support and uplift her cultural roots in Taiwan, even while growing up thousands of miles away in the United States.
When Chloe first moved to the U.S. at a young age, she struggled with language — the barrier that so often builds walls instead of bridges. She remembers what it felt like to want to speak but not have the words, to want to belong but feel different. Learning to speak English with confidence wasn’t easy, but through determination and resilience, she grew — and she never forgot the struggle.
As TSMC began bringing more Taiwanese families to Arizona, Chloe recognized a familiar story in the children of these employees and employee families— students adapting to an unfamiliar culture, navigating a new language, and facing the challenge of being understood. It started small: Chloe helped family friends with homework, translating and explaining concepts that were once foreign to her, too. But soon, she saw something bigger.

She saw a need — and a calling.

Chloe founded AMELE not just as a tutoring service, but as a safe space; a place where Taiwanese students can practice English comfortably, build confidence, and discover their voices. While the nonprofit was created with Taiwanese students in mind, Chloe believes every child deserves the opportunity to grow, speak freely, and be heard.
She saw that language is more than words — it’s how we connect, how we learn, how we create. With AMELE, students are able to practice both Mandarin and English. Whether translating to understand English or just speaking in Mandarin at times, students are able to practice and learn more about both languages as needed. Communication through different languages are important — they are the bridge to the future for students. Every student, regardless of their background, should have the chance to reach for more — to dream, to express, and to thrive.
Chloe expresses her deepest gratitude to her family and friends for standing beside her during the hardest moments of building this dream. And to her dedicated board of directors, Emily Chen and Elliot Sung — thank you for believing in her vision and helping bring AMELE to life.
This is more than an organization. It’s a community.
All of which grew from one girl who believes that language should never be a barrier to becoming who you are meant to be.
